TSA workers who've gone six weeks without pay may get some relief on their utility bills. Public Service Commissioner Tricia Pridemore announced she'll introduce a motion to stop utility companies from disconnecting power to TSA employees during the shutdown.
The proposal would also waive late fees and provide a 30-day grace period for payments once the shutdown ends. It specifically targets workers at Hartsfield-Jackson, though it's unclear which utility companies have agreed or whether protections extend to other federal employees.
Not everyone is celebrating. Georgia WAND executive director Kimberly Scott called the move an "election-year gimmick," noting regulators have approved six Georgia Power rate increases since 2022. "If you're going to utilize your role as an elected official, why not for the betterment of all Georgians?" she asked.
