As Trans Day of Visibility arrives, the Solutions NOT Punishment Collaborative (SnapCo) is hosting its "Deeper Than Visibility Summit: Shift the Narrative and Gag the Right" at Atlanta City Hall today.
Toni-Michelle Williams, co-founder and executive director of SnapCo, spoke about the challenges facing trans youth in Georgia. "My message to young trans people is to get excited and stay excited to be alive right now," Williams told Capital B Atlanta. "I just want to continue to encourage young people to stay alive and stay grounded and stay connected to the people that love them."
SnapCo is also releasing "How We Talk About Us," a new digital zine serving as a guide for community members navigating anti-trans narratives. The organization's work includes mutual aid, the Snap for Freedom School political education hub, and organizing efforts to keep trans people safe.
Williams, who turns 35 next week, reflected on her own journey from a suicide attempt at 14 to becoming a prominent advocate. The summit focuses on fighting anti-trans legislation while centering joy and survival.
