The Atlanta Urban Design Commission voted unanimously Thursday to approve plans for converting a century-old warehouse on Howell Mill Road into a 95-room boutique hotel. The Halverson Group, the Charleston-based developer behind the project, presented revised plans that won over preservationists by committing to retain the building's original brick facade, steel-truss roof structure, and industrial-era signage.

The hotel will feature a rooftop restaurant and bar with skyline views, a ground-floor coffee shop open to the public, and event space that can accommodate up to 200 guests. The developers say they aim to fill a gap in West Midtown's hospitality market, which has seen explosive growth in dining and retail but lacks dedicated boutique lodging.

Construction is slated to begin in late summer, with an opening target of fall 2027. The project is expected to create approximately 120 permanent jobs.
