Perry, who runs Tyler Perry Studios in southwest Atlanta, has a history of large charitable gestures. This one comes as TSA workers nationwide face financial hardship during the longest partial government shutdown on record.
With about 40% of Atlanta's TSA workforce calling out in recent weeks, the airport has struggled to maintain normal security operations. Some officers have quit entirely to find paying work elsewhere.
Perry's donation provides at least temporary relief while Congress remains deadlocked on funding.
