South Peachtree Creek Trail Scores Cash for Major Expansion

The Decide DeKalb Development Authority approved funding last week for sections three and five of the popular trail that connects Emory with Mason Mill Park and other greenspaces. The 2.6-mile existing trail through forests and wetlands is getting extended to provide better off-street access to schools, jobs, and retail between I-85 and Emory.

This is exactly the kind of trail expansion that makes sense for our area. The South Peachtree Creek Trail is already popular with folks who know about it, winding through some beautiful forest and wetland areas between Emory and Mason Mill Park.

What's smart about this expansion is the focus on connectivity. Getting people off-street access to schools, job centers, and retail between I-85 and Emory fills in some real gaps in our pedestrian infrastructure. Too much of metro Atlanta still requires driving everywhere.

Decide DeKalb stepping up with funding shows they get that these trail investments pay off long-term. The existing 2.6 miles prove there's demand for this kind of infrastructure. Now they just need to execute the expansion without the usual delays and cost overruns we see with these projects.
