Memorial services for U.S. Rep. David Scott have been announced. Scott died on April 22 at the age of 80. He represented Georgia's 13th Congressional District since 2003.
Gov. Brian Kemp issued an executive order to allow Scott's body to lie in state at the Georgia State Capitol rotunda on Friday. A brief ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. with a public viewing open until 5 p.m.
Scott's homegoing service will happen Saturday at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church on Cascade Road in Atlanta. Scott first got involved in Georgia politics when he joined Andrew Young's congressional campaign in 1972. He served in the Georgia House from 1975-1982 and the Georgia Senate from 1983-2002 before being elected to Congress.
Throughout his time in Congress, Scott served as chair of the Agriculture Committee and was a senior member of the Financial Services Committee.
