One of the most talked-about shows in American art right now is a hometown homecoming. Georgia native Amy Sherald's exhibition 'American Sublime' is on view at the High Museum of Art in Midtown, according to Atlanta Magazine.
The show gathers more than 50 works, including Sherald's renowned official portrait of former first lady Michelle Obama. Born in Columbus, Sherald cross-enrolled in an art class at Spelman College, switched from a premedicine track to painting, and went on to win the High's David C. Driskell Prize in 2018.
'American Sublime' debuted at SFMOMA in 2024 and traveled to the Whitney and the Baltimore Museum of Art before arriving in Atlanta. It runs through September 27, which leaves plenty of summer to go see it.
For a city that helped shape Sherald's early career, having the full show land at the High is a genuine moment.
