If you've been dealing with those construction closures and weird detours at MARTA stations lately, here's your payoff: the Better Breeze tap-to-pay system officially launches March 28. After what feels like forever of having to plan alternate routes around fare gate construction, we're finally getting the contactless payment system MARTA riders have been asking for.

The biggest change you'll notice is the new faregates themselves. MARTA says they're safer and more effective, plus you can tap your bank card, phone, or mobile wallet directly instead of dealing with a physical Breeze card. That's huge if you're like me and constantly forget to reload your card until you're already at the turnstile.

The rollout isn't complete yet, so you'll still see some stations with the old equipment and ongoing construction. But this is a major step forward for a transit system that honestly needed this upgrade years ago. For daily commuters especially, this should make getting around the city a lot smoother.
