With FIFA World Cup matches less than a month away, MARTA is making sure its central hub is ready for the global spotlight. Five Points Station, the transit system's busiest and only four-way interchange, has received a series of upgrades designed to accommodate the surge of international visitors.
The station connects MARTA's north-south and east-west rail lines, making it the primary transit gateway for fans heading to matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. On match days, transit officials expect significantly higher ridership as visitors from around the world navigate the city.
The upgrades focus on wayfinding, accessibility, and passenger flow. Enhanced signage in multiple languages will help international visitors navigate the station more easily. Additional staffing and customer service representatives will be deployed during World Cup events.
MARTA has been preparing for the tournament for over a year, coordinating with city officials and World Cup organizers on transportation logistics. The transit agency is also promoting its Breeze card system and mobile ticketing options to reduce crowding at fare vending machines.
The World Cup represents one of the largest events MARTA has ever supported. Atlanta will host matches throughout the group stage and into the knockout rounds, with Mercedes-Benz Stadium serving as one of 16 venues across North America.
