Hillman College is coming back, and the road runs through Atlanta. Ahead of the September 24 debut of Netflix's reboot of A Different World, the show's cast gathered for a panel downtown during UNCF's UNITE Summit on Higher Education, according to Capital B Atlanta.
The original ran from 1987 to 1993 as a Cosby Show spinoff set at the fictional HBCU, and it is often credited with boosting real HBCU enrollment by roughly a quarter during its run. The 10-episode reboot brings back beloved characters while introducing a new generation of students.
The new series takes on contemporary campus issues, from funding challenges to immigration and learning accommodations. The panel featured creator and showrunner Felicia Pride alongside returning cast, a fitting stop in a city full of the HBCUs that inspired the show in the first place.
