A man was struck by a MARTA train Saturday morning at Civic Center Station in Midtown, forcing transit officials to shut down power for extradition and rescue.

The disruption began at 10:43 a.m. on Saturday when the Atlanta Police Department received a priority rescue and extrication call. MARTA Police said a train operator notified them that a man was on the train tracks and the operator was not able to stop in time.

Service was suspended on the north-south line while emergency responders worked to remove the victim. Power to the affected section was shut down for safety during rescue operations.

By 2 p.m., service was back up and running on all trains. MARTA Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.

The disruption came during a busy weekend with World Cup visitors in town, adding to transportation challenges for fans trying to reach Downtown events.
