After a decade of planning and fundraising by the Little 5 Points Alliance, the ribbon is officially being cut this afternoon on the reimagined Findley Plaza at the intersection of Euclid and Moreland. The $830,000 project broke ground last August, with $458,000 of the budget supplied by Renew Atlanta funding.

The overhaul includes more than 13,000 square feet of new impervious surfaces, fresh sidewalks, pedestrian furniture, ADA-accessible ramps, and electrical infrastructure for programming. The old scraggly crepe myrtles that used to occupy the middle of the plaza are gone, replaced by large new oaks that buffer the plaza's rim for pedestrians. Alliance executive director Lauren Welsh also confirmed 10 new bike racks.

Plans call for a large L5P sculpture by a local artist to anchor the space. The renovation gives one of Atlanta's most distinctive commercial districts some breathing room and versatility it hasn't had in years. Designs were approved by the City of Atlanta and Urban Design Commission more than six years ago.
