For the first time in more than 50 years, Haiti will compete on soccer's biggest stage, and a new Atlanta initiative aims to make sure the city's Haitian community has a central place to celebrate.
From June 13 through June 27, Haïti Haüs will serve as Atlanta's official home for Haitian culture during the World Cup. The pop-up experience brings together food, music, art, and community programming celebrating the Haitian diaspora.
Organizers say the initiative reflects how soccer lives locally in Atlanta, with heavy focus on the city's rich African, Caribbean, and Latino diaspora communities.
Haiti qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1974, creating a historic moment for the global Haitian community. Atlanta's significant Haitian population, concentrated in parts of DeKalb County and across the metro area, has been organizing watch parties and cultural events.
The pop-up joins other diaspora-focused activations happening across metro Atlanta during the five-week tournament.
