Here we go again with the tax rebates. The Georgia Senate unanimously passed the fourth round Monday, continuing what's becoming a yearly tradition of returning surplus funds to taxpayers.

The amounts are the same as previous rounds: $250 for single filers, $375 for heads of household, and $500 for married couples filing jointly. You need to have filed state returns in both 2024 and 2025 to qualify, which should cover most working Georgians.

Governor Kemp's clearly happy about this, posting on social media about providing relief to "hardworking Georgians." Whether these one-time payments actually provide meaningful relief versus ongoing tax reform is debatable, but extra money is extra money. The Department of Revenue will figure out timing and logistics for getting the payments out.
