The battle for two seats on Georgia's Supreme Court is heating up as abortion rights groups and evangelical organizations pour money into races that are officially nonpartisan.

Incumbent Justice Charlie Bethel is being challenged by Miracle Rankin, a personal injury attorney and former president of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys. Former Democratic state Sen. Jen Jordan is challenging incumbent Justice Sarah Warren.

Reproductive Freedom for All, a nonprofit opposing abortion restrictions, endorsed both Jordan and Rankin. Planned Parenthood Votes pledged to pour $750,000 into an ad campaign supporting the two candidates and casting the incumbents as "politicians in robes." Bethel and Warren were among the six justices who voted in 2024 to reinstate Georgia's six-week abortion ban.

Bethel and Warren, meanwhile, picked up an endorsement from Frontline Policy Action, an evangelical 501(c)(4) organization that opposes abortion rights. The races will appear on the May 19 primary ballot, with early voting starting April 27 at Atlanta's downtown Supreme Court and across the state.
