Attorneys for Fulton County faced off against the Justice Department in federal court Friday, fighting to recover more than 650 boxes of 2020 election documents seized by the FBI in January.
The county's attorney, Abbe Lowell, argued that FBI agents misled the magistrate judge who authorized the raid. He called the affidavit supporting the warrant "full of lies" and said witnesses "completely misstate each of the alleged problems" from the 2020 election.
Assistant Attorney General Tysen Duva acknowledged the FBI agent "may have missed a thing or two" but maintained there was enough information to justify the warrant. He also tried to distance the investigation from Kurt Olsen, Trump's director of election security, who made the criminal referral and has been sanctioned for his election claims.
Judge JP Boulee didn't issue an immediate ruling. Fulton County Commission Chair Robb Pitts, who attended the hearing, called it a good day for the county.
