East Atlanta Kids Club has been working with Southeast Atlanta kids since 1998. Now it wants to give them a hangout on the main drag. The nonprofit is planning East Atlanta Skateshop at 481 Flat Shoals Ave., Suite A, in East Atlanta Village, according to What Now Atlanta.
The shop will sell skate goods and merchandise designed by the club's own young people, and the club is pitching it as a third place for teens, somewhere to be that is not school and not home. The club already runs fitness, experiential learning, and STEAM programs outside the classroom.

The project is still in permitting, construction has not started, and there is no opening date yet. But as that stretch of Flat Shoals keeps redeveloping, a storefront built for kids instead of another bar is a nice counterweight.
