Just when you thought winter was done with us, DeKalb County is opening warming centers again Monday through Wednesday as temperatures take another dive. It's mid-March, but apparently Mother Nature didn't get the memo about spring.

The warming centers are open to anyone who needs them, no questions asked. It's one of those basic human services that doesn't get much attention until you actually need it, but it's literally life-saving for people without reliable shelter.

What's been weird about this winter is how it keeps coming back just when you think it's over. You put away the heavy coats, start thinking about patio weather, then boom - warming centers are opening again. The county deserves credit for staying responsive to these temperature swings instead of just assuming winter is over because the calendar says so.
