This is heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time. An 11-year-old boy was shot in the face Saturday afternoon at The Commons apartments on Middleton Road in northwest Atlanta, caught in the crossfire of an argument between adults. According to witnesses, several women were fighting when one dressed in black fired a rifle into the air, and that bullet struck the child.

The boy was rushed to the hospital, though police haven't released details about his condition. What makes this even more tragic is that The Commons has been dealing with serious violence for a while now. According to APD's crime tracking, there were 14 aggravated assaults at this complex over the past year. That's not normal, and it's not acceptable.

A witness told reporters she saw adults and children frantically running after the shooting, trying to get the wounded boy help. No child should have to experience that kind of trauma, and no community should have to live with that level of violence. This incident highlights the urgent need for better conflict resolution resources and community safety measures in areas that have been struggling with repeated violent incidents.
