The Atlanta Braves wasted no time getting their second homestand started on a positive note. The Sacramento A's came into town with an 0-3 record and were immediately behind 3-0 after an inning of work.
Atlanta won 4-0, led by strong pitching and two RBI from shortstop Mauricio Dubon. Matt Olson also drove in a run, and the Braves drew three walks against A's starter Jacob Lopez in the first half-inning.
Bryce Elder made his first start of the season and looked like he belonged in the rotation. Through six innings, Elder allowed just one extra-base hit, no runs, and struck out five. It was a strong way to start the season for the pitcher making his first Opening Day roster.
"Another outstanding start," said manager Walt Weiss. "It's really nice to go through the rotation and get these kinds of starts." Weiss said Jose Suarez would start Tuesday night. "Everything starts with starting pitching," he noted.
