Remember when Murphy Crossing imploded last year? Yeah, that was painful to watch. But the BeltLine folks clearly went back to the drawing board in a big way, and what they're showing now looks pretty promising for Oakland City.

The new vision calls for more than 600 housing units across the 20-acre site, plus a retail and office village. What's interesting is they're required by city code to include light industrial uses, which should help preserve some of the area's working character. The Beltline's working with their usual crew at Perkins + Will on this one.

This is exactly the kind of development Oakland City needs to see along the Westside Trail. The question now is whether they can actually pull it off this time without another public meltdown. Given how badly the last attempt went, everyone's going to be watching this one closely.
