Andrew Young turned 94 this month, and Atlanta showed up to celebrate. Dozens of dignitaries gathered at the Retreat by the Gathering at the Interlock on March 25 to honor a man whose resume reads like a history of modern Atlanta.

Civil rights leader who worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr. Congressman. UN Ambassador. Two-term Atlanta mayor. Preacher. Philanthropist. The Atlanta BeltLine, which hosted the party, has thrown Young a birthday celebration for four years running.

Before the speeches, Young pulled aside SaportaReport's Maria Saporta to share news from an earlier birthday lunch. Seven gentlemen, including former Gov. Roy Barnes, had gathered to discuss the upcoming gubernatorial race. Their unanimous conclusion? Michael Thurmond, former DeKalb County CEO, should be the next governor of Georgia.
