Remember that empty lot on Hopkins Street where Ackerman & Co. has been working for the past year? Well, those West End townhomes are finally starting to look like actual houses. The project, now called GW Parkside (formerly Hopkins and White Townhomes), is bringing 23 for-sale units to a prime spot near the BeltLine's southwest trail.

This is a pretty big deal because finding for-sale housing near the BeltLine has become increasingly rare, especially in West End where most new development has been rental apartments. Ackerman & Co., which also owns the popular Lee + White complex with all those great restaurants and offices, clearly knows what they're doing in this neighborhood. The first seven units are nearly topped out and should be ready for buyers this spring.

The timing is interesting given all the discussion about climate gentrification and displacement in nearby neighborhoods. These will likely be priced for middle to upper-middle income buyers, which could continue the trend of changing demographics along the BeltLine. But it's also providing much-needed housing in a walkable, transit-accessible location, which is exactly what the city's planning documents say we need more of.
