San Francisco Coffee Roasting Company, one of Atlanta's original specialty coffee pioneers, is finally expanding beyond their longtime Virginia-Highland and Candler Park locations. The Midtown shop opens March 25, followed by a Druid Hills location later this year, giving coffee lovers two new spots to get their fix of beans that have been roasted in Atlanta since 1992.

Founders Doug and Tanya Bond's story is pure Atlanta gold - they met in California in the late '80s (she was a Georgia Tech grad working for IBM, he was a Bay Area local), fell in love over four-wheel driving adventures, and decided to bring West Coast coffee culture to Atlanta. Thirty-plus years later, they're still roasting beans and serving the community that embraced their vision.

The timing for expansion makes sense given how much both Midtown and Druid Hills have grown. Midtown especially has become much more residential with all the new towers, and having a local, independent coffee shop adds to the neighborhood's character. It's refreshing to see a longtime Atlanta business growing organically rather than some national chain taking over another corner.
