Midtown International School dropped a bombshell on parents this week: the school will close Friday, April 3, after what the board called an "extensive review of the school's financial and enrollment position."
The K-12 private school, founded in 2013 and located in Druid Hills, serves gifted and exceptional students. Three board members signed the closure letter, citing a 20-30% drop in applications across independent schools this year and "pressures of the current economic environment."
Parents are understandably scrambling. With about eight weeks left in the academic year, families are trying to figure out how students can finish coursework, earn credit, or graduate. Fourth and fifth grade parents are exploring whether they can rent space and bring teachers along to finish out the year.
"The fourth grade parents are trying to rally together and figure out if there is a way with liability, credibility... if we can find a space," one parent said. For families who had younger children planning to enroll in fall, the closure means starting from scratch on school searches.
