The easternmost station on MARTA's rail system just got a significant facelift. Urbanize Atlanta reports officials held a ribbon-cutting Monday for a new pedestrian bridge and west plaza at Indian Creek station in eastern DeKalb County. The station, which serves about 3,000 transit customers daily as the Blue Line's eastern terminus, was the first to begin construction in MARTA's broader Station Rehabilitation Program.
The new pedestrian bridge is the centerpiece, providing improved access for residents on Durham Park Road to the north side of the station. It also better connects Indian Creek to a planned trail network in the area, giving walkers and cyclists a cleaner path to the platform.
Other upgrades include vibrant orange panels and new lighting under the station's barrel roof, illuminated signage throughout, benches and trash receptacles, a deep cleaning, a repaved bus loop, and a new operators' booth and restroom on the platform.
Indian Creek is an outlier in MARTA's system, sitting well east of the urban core in a more car-oriented part of DeKalb. The upgrades are part of a systemwide effort to modernize aging stations, with work planned or underway from Buckhead to the airport. For the 3,000 daily riders at Indian Creek, the improvements mean a cleaner, better-lit, and more accessible station.
