Emory University has promoted from within for its next leader, naming Christopher L. Augostini as its 22nd president effective September 1, 2026.
Augostini, currently Emory's executive vice president and chief operating officer, was unanimously elected by the Board of Trustees following a national search that included more than 40 listening sessions and extensive feedback from students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
"I'm extraordinarily honored and thrilled to be named Emory's next president," Augostini said. "As I look across the higher education landscape, I believe Emory is uniquely positioned to lead."
Board Chair Robert C. Goddard III praised Augostini's "exceptional leadership skills, distinguished record of achievement, and deep understanding of Emory's culture and community."
The appointment caps a career in higher education administration for Augostini, who has overseen Emory's operations during a period of significant growth and change. The university, located in Druid Hills, is one of the nation's leading research institutions.
