The 23rd annual Kirkwood Spring Fling and Tour of Homes will feature an unusual stop this May: a nature preserve recently renamed to honor a longtime local volunteer.
The preserve, which offers a pocket of green space in the east-side neighborhood, has been a community treasure for years. Now it carries the name of someone who dedicated significant time to its preservation and improvement.
The Kirkwood Spring Fling runs May 16-17 and typically showcases the neighborhood's charming Craftsman bungalows and larger family homes. Adding the preserve to the tour highlights Kirkwood's commitment to green space and community stewardship.
Kirkwood has maintained a strong neighborhood identity even as surrounding areas have rapidly developed. The active Kirkwood Neighbors' Organization and events like the Spring Fling reinforce the community bonds that make the neighborhood distinctive.
