The Georgia Department of Transportation will once again close a portion of I-285 on the west side for weekend road work.

The full closure in both directions will be located between State Route 139/Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive (exit 9) and Cascade Road (exit 7) in Fulton County.

The closure begins at 7 p.m. Friday, June 5, and will remain in place until 5 a.m. Monday, June 8.

Motorists can expect delays and congestion on alternate routes, including I-20, I-75/I-85, and Langford Parkway.

Southbound I-285 traffic will be diverted to I-20 (Exit 10 A) to I-75/I-85 southbound. Northbound and westbound I-285 traffic will be diverted to SR 166/Langford Parkway (Exit 5).

This $206 million effort is one of two major projects to repair and replace concrete slabs along the westside Perimeter corridor. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2028.

The project represents a full-depth reconstruction rather than basic resurfacing of 10 miles of highway that officials consider one of the worst stretches in the metro area.
