Brookhaven had a rough weekend with multiple violent incidents, including a double shooting at Park Towne North Apartments on Cliff Valley Way near Buford Highway that left two young men dead. Police responded around 11:20 p.m. Sunday after hearing gunshots and found the victims - both Hispanic men in their early 20s - with multiple gunshot wounds.
The violence was significant enough that one car at the scene had at least 10 bullet holes, suggesting this wasn't a random incident but likely targeted. One victim was found shot to death inside the vehicle with the door open, while the second was discovered near an apartment building and died at the hospital. The apartment complex is in an area that's seen increasing development but also ongoing challenges with crime.
This shooting was part of a particularly violent weekend for Brookhaven that also included a separate shooting outside the Kroger on Peachtree Road and a multi-vehicle fire that caused a parking garage to partially collapse on Clairmont Road. Police Chief Brandon Gurley said officers responded quickly to all incidents, but the concentration of violence in one weekend is unusual even for a city that's been dealing with growing pains as it develops rapidly.
