Remember that awkward gap in the Beltline near Lee + White where the trail just sort of... ends? Well, that's about to be history. Atlanta Beltline Inc. says Westside Trail Segment 6 will be almost fully designed by the end of March, with construction bids going out this summer.
This might be the shortest segment at just 0.6 miles, but it's arguably one of the most important. It fills the gap between the existing Westside Trail and the booming Lee + White area, where restaurants like Miller Union and JCT Kitchen have helped transform the old warehouse district into a dining destination. The project will also add crucial connectivity for West End residents who've been watching other neighborhoods get their Beltline access first.
Beltline crews have already started prepping the abandoned rail corridor with new gravel and are cutting back overgrown vegetation. Once complete, this segment will bring the Beltline one step closer to its full 22-mile vision, giving West End the same economic development boost we've seen in places like the Old Fourth Ward and Inman Park.
