After years of watching the Beltline slowly make its way around the city, we're finally getting close to completing the full 22-mile loop. The last piece of the puzzle is Westside Trail Segment 6, that 0.6-mile stretch in West End that runs just north of the Lee + White warehouse district.
Atlanta Beltline Inc. says they expect to have the segment almost fully designed by the end of March, which means they can start the bidding process for builders this summer. They've already been doing prep work, adding new gravel to the interim trail and cutting back overgrowth along the abandoned rail corridor.
It's a short stretch, but it's crucial because it completes the continuous loop that was always the vision for this project. Right now it's just a cleared rail corridor, but once it's built out with proper trail surfaces and connections, you'll be able to walk or bike the entire Beltline circuit. That's been the goal since day one, and we're finally within reach of making it happen.
