#foodie-all – by Ellen Britt. Hey y’all…! Ellen Britt here, the Atlanta News and Talk Hometown Ambassador, with more food talk.

A friend of mine asked me the other day how in the world I could possibly go plant based, seeing that I was born and raised in the South and practically grew up on pork barbecue!

Good question. I had several reasons to go plant based, most of them based on health concerns. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to get anyone to turn into a vegan, but I do want you to understand the advantages of adding more plant based meals to your diet.

A couple of years ago, I started practicing daily intermittent fasting and lost 35 pounds. Along with the weight, I found that my desire for meat and then dairy products sort of fell away as well.

I never planned it that way, but that’s what happened. So I embraced a nearly 100% plant based diet. And actually the science is very clear….eat less meat and dairy and you have less chances of developing heart disease, cancer and a host of other illnesses.

It’s also better for the environment and I know I don’t have to tell you what goes on in slaughterhouses. Enough said!

Anyway, I’m having a lot of fun exploring the world of plant based cooking (and eating!) and we have plenty of good things in store in that department coming your way soon. Here’s to your health!
