The Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel on the Morehouse College campus was packed with well-wishers from as far as Kingston, Jamaica, all gathered to celebrate the career of Dean Lawrence Edward Carter, Sr. Carter, who is retiring after a distinguished tenure, helped shape the spiritual and intellectual life of generations of Morehouse men.

The celebration drew divinity scholars, former students, and community leaders who credited Carter with maintaining the chapel's role as a center for social justice discourse and interfaith dialogue. At a historically Black college that produced Martin Luther King Jr., the dean of the chapel holds a particularly significant position.

Speakers at the event reflected on Carter's influence beyond the campus, noting his work in building bridges between religious traditions and his commitment to the nonviolent philosophy that Morehouse has long championed.
