The Georgia Historical Society will unveil a new historical marker honoring H.J. Russell & Company on April 29 at the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs at 504 Fair Street in Atlanta.
Herman J. Russell founded the company in 1952, growing it from a small plastering business into one of the nation's largest Black-owned firms. Over the decades, H.J. Russell & Company became deeply connected to Atlanta's growth, with its work reflected in major projects including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.
The recognition is part of the Georgia Business History Initiative, which highlights companies that have helped shape the state's economy and history. The building at 504 Fair Street once served as the national headquarters of H.J. Russell & Company and now houses resources for small business owners.
