Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is preparing for a major spring travel surge, with more than 8.3 million passengers expected to pass through the airport in April.

Airport officials say April 3 could be one of the busiest travel days on record. The spike comes as the airport recovers from weeks of chaos caused by the DHS funding lapse, which saw TSA callout rates spike above 40% and security lines stretch for hours.

TSA workers have now begun receiving back pay covering four weeks of wages held up by the partial government shutdown. Security lines are starting to normalize as workers return.

The timing coincides with spring break travel, the Easter holiday weekend, and the beginning of early World Cup tourism. Atlanta's airport remains the world's busiest by passenger traffic, a distinction it has held for most of the past two decades.
