Delta Air Lines plans to work with Amazon to dramatically improve Wi-Fi on its fleet of planes.
The airline announced it will add Amazon Leo satellite internet to planes, beginning with 500 installations in 2028. Delta says the change will bring faster, more personalized digital experiences on board for both domestic and international flights.
Amazon Leo is a direct competitor with Starlink, working to bring satellite internet to areas with limited connectivity. The in-flight solutions are powered by an aviation-grade version of Amazon's most powerful antenna, Leo Ultra, described as the fastest commercial phased-array antenna in production.
"Delta's future is global," said CEO Ed Bastian. "This agreement gives us the fastest and most cost-effective technology available to better connect the world today."
Since 2020, Delta and AWS have migrated nearly 600 applications to the cloud and accelerated adoption of new technologies to empower employees and improve customer service.
