The city showed out big for the opening night of Decatur WatchFest '26 on Thursday, June 11.
People packed the Square to watch the Mexico vs. South Africa match on three big screens and enjoy a slate of activities. What better way to showcase an ITP ATL downtown redo years in the making and kick off 2026 FIFA World Cup festivities?
Grammy-winning recording artist Big Boi delighted a packed crowd, performing hits that had fans dancing between match action. The newly renovated $8.5 million town square, with its modernized performing arts stage and expanded greenspaces, proved ready for its moment.
Decatur WatchFest '26 will air more than 60 World Cup matches through the tournament, alongside 34 free concerts from regional and national music artists. No tickets are required.
The festival marks the first major public event on the refreshed square since construction wrapped just days before the tournament began.
