I don’t know about you, but I used to just detest peeling ginger! We use quite a bit of fresh ginger at my house, as Golden Fried Rice (and variations!) is one of the fave dishes around here.

But before I was introduced to a little trick that made peeling ginger easy, I resisted making anything that called for it. Everytime I would try to peel ginger with a knife, it seems like I ended up wasting half of the ginger root as it came away with the peel.

Then one day, I read about how you could use the edge of a spoon to peel ginger. At first I didn’t believe it, becuase everyone knows you can’t use a spoon to peel anything.


I tried it and I’ll never go back. For some reason using the edge of a spoon to gently scrape away the ginger peel is so easy, efficient and best of all, doesn’t take half the ginger root with it.
