The transformation of CNN Center into its next life as "The Center" is coming into sharper focus as the World Cup approaches.
New renderings published by the AJC show plans for the massive mixed-use redevelopment of the former cable news headquarters adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park. The project is part of the broader wave of Downtown revitalization that includes Centennial Yards and the Constitution Building revival.
The reimagined space will include retail, dining, entertainment, and potentially residential components. Its location next to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the future FIFA Fan Festival site at Centennial Olympic Park makes it a prime candidate for activation during the World Cup matches beginning in June.
CNN relocated its headquarters to the Hudson Yards neighborhood in New York in 2024, leaving the iconic atrium building available for redevelopment. The project joins Georgia-Pacific Center's 51-story tower conversion and several other major Downtown projects in various stages of planning.
