Atlanta's Public Safety Committee unanimously advanced two resolutions aimed at limiting Immigration and Customs Enforcement activities in the city. The first would bar ICE detention facilities within city limits. The second requires Atlanta police to document ICE agents' activities when present during their operations.
Dozens of Atlantans showed up at the council meeting to advocate for the resolutions. They also criticized Mayor Andre Dickens for refusing to sign the city's first-ever contract with the Atlanta firefighters' union, which the council ratified back in April 2025.
The firefighters' union sued the city for breach of contract on March 17. It's unclear why the mayor hasn't signed. The full council will vote on both ICE resolutions at its next meeting on April 20.
