Atlanta Ballet is bringing the story of Frida Kahlo to life in a new production that positions the company at the intersection of international arts and Atlanta's expanding Latin American connections.

The production, simply titled "Frida," draws on choreography by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and uses dance to explore the Mexican painter's life, art, and enduring cultural influence. The work has been staged by ballet companies around the world, but its arrival in Atlanta carries particular resonance as the city continues to deepen its ties with Latin America through business, diplomacy, and culture.

Atlanta Ballet, one of the oldest ballet companies in the country, has increasingly programmed works that reflect the diversity of its audience and the city it calls home. "Frida" fits that direction, offering a story rooted in Mexican identity performed for an Atlanta audience that includes one of the fastest-growing Latino populations in the Southeast.

The production runs at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre and features dancers from Atlanta Ballet's resident company. Details on remaining performances are available through the ballet's website.
